Organic:
  1. relating to or derived from living matter. “organic soils”
  2. PHYSIOLOGY
relating to a bodily organ or organs.

This weeks word was a no brainer.  I have always been particularly interested in the word organic.  When applied to a moving practice the message I tried to convey all week long is: It is okay, in fact- it is encouraged that you show up on your yoga mat exactly as you are in that moment.  Bad, good, cranky, irritable, stressed, jovial, excited.  Your yoga mat is a scared space where you never have to wear a mask or be something you aren’t.  And the very act of allowing what is, to be, often you discover that you work through the thing you had been struggling with up until that point.

In certain settings like your place of work typically it is more suitable to be politically correct and not show that in fact you are having a bad day, so you just say you’re good when asked and keep on moving.  Well– when it comes to a yoga practice letting those walls down the moment you make your way to class is crucial.  If you don’t you are fighting against the very medicine that is being offered to you.

How does this intertwine with organic?  In my modest opinion, seamlessly.  Think about organic produce, it shows its bumps, its bruises, often little critters have nibbled on in places, it is unapologetically itself; its appearance on the shelf is often less attractive than the pesticide infused produce, and yet its nutrient quality is far beyond that of the mass produced agriculture that our market is flooded with.

So I write to you today to give you permission to be the odd shaped apple, nibbled on, with a few imperfections.  Show up to your mat ready to be transparent, listen, release, strengthen, and heal.

Ways I shared Organic in class:

I move organically

I allow myself to show up exactly as I am, because it is so much harder to pretend to be something I am not.

I am organic.

I seek organic connections with those in my life.
