Zest: great enthusiasm and energy.
Gee whiz. Here I sit a full 6 1/2 months later. Tinkering with the last letter of the alphabet, feeling just right about the last word of this 26 week series.
In addition to feeling just right, I feel just a little curious.
How many of my students looked forward to the blog each week?
Did anyone notice that 3 of my posts got published “a day late.” (in accordance to my personal time frame)
Which words resonated with people most deeply?
It is interesting because I think where a lot of humans lose their zest is in early adulthood. No longer are they forced to be in school. Maybe they did college and either they find themselves in a career pertaining to all the schooling they just did, or they don’t and they find themselves in a decent amount of debt and still as confused as ever about who and where their supposed to be.
So we are working, “adulting” so to speak, but no longer do we find ourselves being disciplined or challenged by teachers. It is common for people to stop putting themselves in situations where they are outside of their comfort zones, put on the spot, learning new material, or held accountable to some sort of homework/creation. A plateau occurs. Obviously this is not true to all, but I do genuinely feel it is common to lose a hunger, not see the true value in self discipline and effectively they lose zest.
How epically perfect that this is where my series closes.
I did this series not just for my students and to hopefully create some sort of enthusiasm and uniqueness around attending my specific class, but I did it to keep myself fresh, to keep me in a state of creativity, and to keep me accountable. A form of personal self discipline.
So what comes next? Do I cycle the alphabet again? Do I come up with a new series? Do I maintain these little posts? Ahh- all very good questions to ponder at this time.
To be honest- it is Monday morning, I am sitting on a beautiful porch in Santa Cruz California with wind chimes tinkering and birds chirping, and I have no clue.
I am perfectly okay with the unknowingness for the moment. What I can tell you is I absolutely promise that I will keep it 100% ZESTY.
I live my life with enthusiasm, I AM ZESTY.
